Brand extends Fresno’s quarantine order through April 12

From the front porch of his home, Fresno Mayor Lee Brand announced Thursday that the city’s shelter-in-place order will continue through Easter.

Fresno Mayor Lee Brand announced from the front porch of his home on Thursday that the city’s shelter-in-place order, which was set to expire at the end of March, will continue through Easter.

Brand held a press conference Thursday morning from his northeast Fresno home, following Centers for Disease Control guidance for Americans older than 65 to quarantine at home.

“I’m proud to say that from everything I’ve seen and heard is that everyone in Fresno is taking this seriously,” Brand said of his original order.

“But all indications are we have yet to see the worst of this pandemic.”

Brand addressed the economic impact that extending shelter-in-place order, which includes the closure of non-essential businesses, will likely have on the local economy.

“My hope – my prayer – is to get people back to work, back to school, and back to a normal life as soon as we safely can,” he said.

Fresno City Manager Wilma Quan authorized the order earlier on Thursday morning.
