President Donald Trump named David Rosner as chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Rosner has been serving as a FERC commissioner since mid-2024.
The big pictures: His appointment as chair is expected to be temporary.
- Trump previously nominated two Republicans to the commission in June, but they have yet to receive Senate confirmation.
- FERC, a regulatory body with a maximum of five members, oversees the power grid, liquefied natural gas projects, and interstate transportation of oil and natural gas.
- Following the recent resignation of Republican member Mark Christie, FERC currently operates with three members.
Go deeper: Trump nominated Laura Swett to replace Christie and intends to appoint her as chair once the Senate confirms her.
- David LeCerte was also nominated alongside Swett to serve as commissioner.
- If confirmed, Swett and LeCerte’s addition would give FERC a 3-2 Republican majority.
- Rosner has two decades of experience working in the energy sector and both inside and outside government positions.
