Newsom appoints new Fresno County judge

The newest addition to the Fresno County Superior Court has extensive legal experience across the region.

The Fresno County Superior Court has a new judge. 

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed Melissa Baloian to the bench. 

Driving the news: Baloian most recently worked as a Solo Practitioner and was previously a Supervising Attorney at The Matian Firm from 2022 to 2023. 

  • Before that, she was a Solo Practitioner at the Law Office of Melissa Baloian from 2011 to 2022. 
  • She also has experience as a prosecutor, having served as a Deputy District Attorney at the Madera County District Attorney’s Office in 2011 and as a Deputy District Attorney at the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office from 2007 to 2010. 
  • Baloian also served as a Deputy City Attorney at the Fresno City Attorney’s Office from 2006 to 2007 and as a Deputy Public Defender at the Fresno County Public Defender’s Office from 2004 to 2006. 
  • Baloian attended the University of San Francisco and fills the vacancy created when Judge Adolfo Corona retired. 
  • She is registered as no party preference.
