U.S. changes COVID-19 vaccine recommendations

Healthy children and pregnant women are no longer recommended to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that the COVID-19 shots for healthy children and healthy pregnant women have been removed from the CDC’s list of recommended vaccines.

The big picture: The FDA plans to overhaul how it approves the vaccine and limit the shot to people over the age of 65 and for all persons above the age of 6 months with one or more risk factors.

  • Kennedy announced the change on Tuesday.

What they’re saying: “As of today, the COVID vaccine for healthy children and healthy pregnant women has been removed from the CDC recommended immunization schedule,” Kennedy said. “Last year, the Biden administration urged healthy children to get yet another COVID shot, despite the lack of any clinical data to support the repeat booster strategy in children.”
