Trump to appoint Sean Curran as Secret Service Director

Curran helped protect Trump during the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

President-elect Donald Trump plans to appoint Sean Curran, who previously headed his personal security detail, as the director of the U.S. Secret Service.

Driving the news: The Secret Service has faced criticism following two attempted assassinations of Donald Trump – one during a rally in Pennsylvania in July 2024, where Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet, and another at his Florida golf course in September of the same year.

  • Concerns were raised about the effectiveness of communication and coordination between local and federal law enforcement agencies during the first assassination attempt, which allowed the assailant to reach a rooftop and open fire on Trump.

The big picture: Curran and other Secret Service agents shielded Trump during the first attempt, and he later rallied the crowd before being escorted off the stage.

What they’re saying: “Sean is a great patriot and will stop all the insanity once and for all. There’s not a better person to be in this position!” Donald Trump Jr. posted on X on Friday.
