President Donald Trump announced deals totaling over $200 billion between the United States and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
The deals include a commitment of $14.5 billion between Boeing, GE Aerospace and Etihad Airways.
THe big picture: Etihad Airways agreed to invest $14.5 billion to purchase 28 American-made Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft powered by GE engines.
- The investment deepens the longstanding commercial aviation partnership between the UAE and the United States, driving exports and fueling American manufacturing according to an announcement from the White House.
- Etihad Airways, owned by Abu Dhabi’s wealth fund ADQ, plans to expand its fleet to more than 170 planes by 2030 to boost Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification strategy.
- During Trump’s visit to the Gulf Arab country, Boeing secured its biggest deal for widebody airplanes with Qatar Airways placing firm orders for 160 jetliners worth $96 billion.
