A coalition of Democratic state attorneys general, including 17 states and the District of Columbia, filed a lawsuit in federal court in Boston to block President Donald Trump’s suspension of leasing and permitting of new wind projects.
The big picture: The lawsuit argues that the administration’s decision to indefinitely pause all federal wind-energy approvals is unlawful and poses a significant threat to the wind industry and clean energy sources.
- Trump announced the suspension on his first day back in office, directing the administration to halt offshore wind lease sales and cease permits, leases, and loans for both onshore and offshore wind projects.
What they’re saying: “This administration is devastating one of our nation’s fastest-growing sources of clean, reliable and affordable energy,” said New York Attorney General Letitia James in a statement.
Zoom in: The lawsuit seeks a court order declaring the indefinite pause as unlawful and aims to prevent the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Interior, along with the Environmental Protection Agency, from implementing Trump’s directive.
