CBS to turn over unedited Kamala Harris interview

President Donald Trump has sued CBS for the company’s editing of an interview on 60 minutes with former Vice President Kamala Harris.

CBS has agreed to hand over the unedited transcripts of the 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) following a dispute with President Donald Trump about the network’s handling of the interview.

Driving the news: Trump sued CBS for $10 billion, alleging that the interview was deceptively edited to favor Harris.

  • CBS parent company Paramount has been in discussions with Trump’s lawyers regarding a potential settlement.

The big picture: The network was compelled by Brendan Carr, Trump’s appointee as FCC chairman, to provide the transcripts and camera feeds of the interview for an ongoing investigation by the commission. 60 Minutes typically refrains from releasing transcripts to avoid scrutiny of its editing process.

Flashback: The interview drew attention when CBS News aired different responses by Harris to a question on two separate programs. Trump accused CBS of editing the footage to influence voter opinion.

  • While Trump rejected an interview request from 60 Minutes during his campaign, he continued the legal battle post-election.
