American Airlines seeks approval to resume Venezuela flights 

The carrier has applied for permission to operate flights from Miami to Caracas and Maracaibo as U.S. restrictions are lifted after more than six years.

American Airlines has requested approval from the U.S. Transportation Department to operate flights from Miami to Caracas and Maracaibo, Venezuela, via its regional carrier Envoy.

Driving the news: The move follows the rescinding of a 2019 order by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, which previously barred U.S. airlines from flying to Venezuela.

  • The change was made after President Donald Trump directed Secretary Duffy to lift the ban.
