Tulare native Richard Torrez Jr. has kept his undefeated record alive, knocking out Issac Munoz in the third round at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Torrez Jr. improves his professional record to 12-0 with 11 knockouts with his defeat of Mexico’s top heavyweight.
Driving the news: The fight had to be stopped in the third round last Saturday after Torrez Jr. pummelled Munoz, forcing the referee to step in and call the fight, awarding Torrez Jr. with the knockout.
- It was the first time Munoz had been knocked out in his professional career.
- Torrez Jr. got himself back in the knockout column after not getting one in his last fight against Joey Dawejko, who was disqualified during the bout.
What he’s saying: “By the end of the third round, I knew he didn’t want it anymore,” Torrez said after the fight. “He could take a great shot, but those combinations to both the body and head took their toll.”
What we’re watching: Torrez said he is willing to fight any opponent in his next bout, but he singled out British heavyweight Joe Joyce when asked who he wants to face next.
- Joyce is 16-3 (15 KOs) in his professional career and was the World Boxing Organization interim heavyweight champion from 2022 to 2023.
