Coming off a trip to the AFC Championship Game and his first Most Valuable Player award, Firebaugh native Josh Allen has re-upped with the Buffalo Bills for another six years.
Buffalo agreed to give Allen $250 million guaranteed as part of the contract, the most guaranteed money to ever be given to an NFL player.
The big picture: Allen’s contract extension totals six years for $330 million in total, locking him in with the Bill through the 2028 season.
- He already had four years remaining on his previous deal with the Bills, which was for six years and nearly $260 million, averaging $43 million a year.
- The new contract will see Allen average $55 million per year, second only to Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, who takes home $60 million per year.
- Cleveland Browns QB DeShaun Watson held the record for total guaranteed money at $230 million before Allen’s new contract.
Driving the news: Allen has led the Bills for seven seasons since he was drafted in the first round out of Wyoming.
- He had placed in the top five of MVP voting three times before finally breaking through last season, beating out Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
- Allen has also brought stability to the quarterback position for Buffalo, starting the most games at the position for the Bills since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly retired after the 1996 season.
- Buffalo has won five straight AFC East titles and have made the playoffs for six consecutive years with Allen.
