New Fresno State Head Football coach Matt Entz will make at least $7.35 million over the life of his five-year contract with the university.
His starting salary of $1.1 million for the 2025 season places him far from the highest paid coaches in the Mountain West Conference.
The big picture: After earning $1.1 million in 2025, Entz’s base salary will increase to $1.35 million in 2026, $1.5 million in 2027, $1.65 million in 2028 and $1.75 million in 2029, according to a report from McClatchy.
- Entz will receive an evaluation bonus of $100,000 if his annual evaluation in 2025 is satisfactory or better and if Fresno State does not face an investigation or sanctions from the NCAA.
- He also has further performance bonuses up to $350,000 per year, which are separate from bowl game bonuses.
Go deeper: If Entz leads the Bulldogs to at least 11 wins, he will receive a $120,000 bonus. Winning the Mountain West next year or the Pac-12 after that will net him $75,000.
- He will receive $50,000 for participating in a bowl game, or $75,000 for winning a bowl game.
- Making the College Football Playoff will earn Entz $150,000, while winning a playoff game would provide a $250,000 bonus. He would get $500,000 for making a national semifinal game.
- Entz would take home $600,000 if he leads Fresno State to its first-ever national championship game, with a $1 million bonus waiting for him if the ‘Dogs win.
Zoom out: Entz’s 2025 salary will be far off from the top earners in the Mountain West.
- New Utah State coach Bronco Mendenhall, who was just poached from New Mexico, will make $2 million in 2025.
- Colorado State coach Jay Norvell is next up at $1.9 million, followed by San Diego State’s Sean Lewis at $1.85 million.
- UNLV had been set to pay Barry Odom a $2 million base salary in 2025, but Odom has left Las Vegas for Purdue.
