Perea jumps to major Assembly fundraising lead, despite significant outside spending

An outside environmental group spent more than $300,000 to boost activist Sandra Celedon’s nascent bid for California State Assembly against Fresno City Councilwoman Annalisa Perea.

The political fundraising reports are in for the races for California’s state offices.

Here’s a look at where the Central Valley’s Assembly races stand:

Assembly District 31: Fresno City Councilwoman Annalisa Perea led the pack in the 31st district race, raising $116,000 in the period. She reported having $300,000 in the bank.

  • Fresno Building Healthy Communities CEO Sandra Celedon brought in $27,000 and has $106,000 in the bank.
  • While Perea boasts far more money in her war chest, Celedon was the beneficiary of nearly $320,000 in outside spending for mail and digital advertising from the progressive Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California PAC over the course of 2025.
  • The Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California has received major funding from Southern California and Bay Area progressive donors in recent years. In 2024, the organization received $10 million from Advocacy Action Fund, $5 million from Wendy Schmidt – the wife of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt – $1.1 million from activist Aileen Getty, $500,000 from Laurene Powell Jobs, and $500,000 from Julie Packard.
  • The other candidate in the race is Republican James Polsgrove. He raised $7,000 and has $20,000 in the bank.

Assembly District 27: Fresno County Supervisor Brian Pacheco came out on top in the financial reporting for the 27th district race.

  • Pacheco raised $513,000 and reported having $512,000 in the bank.
  • Former Merced Mayor Mike Murphy raised $146,000 and has $296,000 in his war chest.

Assembly District 35: The 35th district will be an open race in June with Asm. Jasmeet Bains (D–Delano) running for Congress.

  • Bakersfield City Councilman Andrae Gonzales led the field with $355,000 in contributions, leaving him with $278,000 on hand.
  • Fellow Democrat Ana Palacio raised $103,000 and has $102,000 in the bank.
  • McFarland Mayor Saul Ayon, a Republican, took in $68,000 and has $61,000 in the bank.

Assembly District 8: Asm. David Tangipa (R–Clovis) brought in $204,000 from July 2025 through December 2025. He has $164,000 in his war chest.

  • Clovis Democrat Joshua Engel filed to run in District 8 but did not submit a campaign finance report.

Assembly District 9: Assembly Minority Leader Heath Flora (R–Ripon) raised $411,000 in the second half of last year, but significant expenditures left him with $46,000 in the bank at the end of the reporting period.

  • Democrat Matthew Adams reported $11,000 in contributions and has $9,500 in the bank.

Assembly District 13: Asm. Rhodesia Ranson (D–Tracy) is running unopposed in the 13th district.
