GOP launches Spanish ads against Valley Democrats

President Donald Trump gained Hispanic voters throughout the country last year. Republicans are looking to capitalize on that momentum heading into next year’s midterms.

Republicans are targeting Democrat Congressmen in the Central Valley with a new Spanish advertising campaign.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) launched a paid Spanish ad campaign against Rep. Jim Costa (D–Fresno), Rep. Adam Gray (D–Merced) and Rep. Josh Harder (D–Tracy) on Monday.

The big picture: The NRCC is going after the Democratic trio for voting against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, saying they voted for the largest tax increase in generations.

  • The ad, which is the same across the three Congressional districts, says the Democrats “would empty your wallet.”

Zoom out: The Spanish language ad campaign is part of a broader effort across the country to target Congressional Districts with heavy Hispanic populations, especially those which supported President Donald Trump last November.

  • Gray and Harder in the 13th and 9th Congressional Districts, respectively, are two of five Democrats across the nation who represent a large Hispanic population in a district that voted for Trump.
  • While Costa’s 21st District supported Joe Biden, Trump saw his support increase from 38.8% in 2020 to 46.8% last year, according to data provided by the California Target Book.

What they’re saying: “Latino voters are turning away from Democrat Josh Harder, who just voted for the largest tax hike in generations, hurting working families in California,” said NRCC National Hispanic Press Secretary Christian Martinez about the ad targeting Harder. “The NRCC will make sure Californians don’t forget how they betrayed the Latino communities.”
