Garrett Gilcrease launches campaign for Kings County Supervisor

The Kings County farmer is hoping to succeed Joe Neves, a lawmaker whose tenure dates back to 1994, on the Board of Supervisors.

Longtime Kings County farmer Garrett Gilcrease is running for the Board of Supervisors.

Gilcrease, who lives on his family farm outside of Lemoore, is running in District 1 and has the backing of Supervisor Joe Neves to be his successor.

Driving the news: Gilcrease’s family farm was established in 1883 and grows almonds, grapes and tomatoes.

  • Along with running his family farm, Gilcrease runs agriculture consulting firm Pure Agronomics.
  • He is also the President of the Kings County Farm Bureau and has also served in various other roles for the organization in years past. The Farm Bureau and its members have backed his bid to succeed Neves, too.
  • Other organizations that Gilcrease has been involved with include the Mid Kings River Groundwater Sustainability Agency, the California Association of Pest Control Advisors and Kings Christian School, among others.

What we’re watching: If Gilcrease is elected, he will be following in the footsteps of his great grandfather Berry Gilcrease, who represented District 1 on the Board of Supervisors for many years last century.

Zoom in: District 1 covers much of Lemoore and all of Stratford, as well as Naval Air Station Lemoore in western Kings County.

  • Neves is retiring after serving on the board since he was first elected in 1994.

What he’s saying: “I’m running for Kings County Supervisor because our community deserves practical, no-nonsense leadership rooted in real-world experience – someone who understands the challenges facing our farms, families, and water resources, and who will fight for responsible, common-sense solutions without gimmicks or waste,” Gilcrease told The Sun.

  • He continued, “As a fourth-generation farmer continuing my great-grandfather Berry Gilcrease’s legacy of service in District 1, I’m stepping up to ensure Kings County stays strong for the next generation.”
