Atwater prisoner sentenced for assault 

Two prisoners assaulted a fellow inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary at Atwater.

A prisoner in Merced County has been sentenced to years in prison for assaulting another inmate. 

U.S. District Judge Kirk Sherriff sentenced Delonte Williams, 37, to 33 months in prison for assault with a deadly weapon. 

The big picture: On April 28, 2024, Williams chased another inmate around a cell block while holding a knife-like weapon that was made in jail. 

  • Williams and another inmate used the knife to stab the victim, which wounded him and required him to seek medical attention. 
  • They were all prisoners at U.S. Penitentiary at Atwater. 

What we’re watching: Jarvell Kent, the co-defendant in the case, will be sentenced on June 23.
