Yosemite National Park is implementing a reservation this summer to help control the large crowds that typically descend on the park during the season.
Visitors will have to make a reservation for the park online for many dates throughout the summer months.
The big picture: Reservations will be in place starting May 24 and ending on Sep. 1.
- Reservations will be required on Memorial Day weekend – May 24 through May 26, for everyone entering between 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Reservations will not be required at any time from May 27 through June 14 but will return from June 15 through Aug. 15 before disappearing again through Aug. 29.
- Visitors for Labor Day weekend – Aug. 30 through Sep. 1 – will need reservations.
- People who have reservations for a campground, hotel, vacation rental, wilderness permit or Half Dome permit will not need an additional reservation to enter the park.
- People who do not have reservations can still visit Yosemite if they arrive at an entrance station before 6 a.m. or after 2 p.m.
How to get a reservation: Yosemite National Park is releasing reservations for all dates on Tuesday at 8 a.m. Those reservations will be posted online at recreation.gov.
- More reservations will be available seven days before the arrival date and will be available each day at 8 a.m.
- Reservation fees are $2 and are non-refundable. The fee does not include the $35-per-car entrance fee into Yosemite.
