Farm management executive Martin Chavez announced he is joining the quickly-evolving race for Kings County Supervisor, hoping to succeed the County’s most-senior Supervisor, Joe Neves.
It’s Chavez’s second attempt to win the seat, coming off an unsuccessful 2022 challenge to Neves.
Driving the news: Chavez announced his bid in a social media video featuring him across the western Kings County district.
- The Stratford native and UC Merced alum currently works as Farmer Relations Director for Pacific Farm Management, Inc.
State of the race: Chavez joins two other contenders – Kings County Farm Bureau president Garrett Gilcrease and realtor Stefanie Silveira Chavez – in pursuing Neves’ seat.
- Gilcrease won the backing of the soon-to-depart incumbent. He also won the endorsement of the Kings County Farm Bureau.
- Chavez, the sister-in-law of U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, launched her bid last week.
What he’s saying: “I’m not going to wait until I’m elected to start showing up. Our roads need fixing, our farmers and families need reliable water, our first responders need someone in their corner,” Chavez said in his announcement.
