Saizon named among best restaurants in California by LA Times

The LA Times food critic included the popular northeast Fresno restaurant on the annual list.

Fresno’s Saizon restaurant has been named as one of the best restaurants in California by the Los Angeles Times.

The LA Times included Saizon on its list of the 101 best restaurants in the Golden State.

The big picture: LA Times food critic Bill Addison reviewed Saizon for the list and noted the popularity of the restaurant, saying there was only one reservation available for him a few days out.

  • The Napa Valley meets Mexico City styled restaurant opened in 2022 by Brandon Smittcamp and Kevin Koligian.
  • They also own the Lime Lite, Heirloom, Mayd Modern Mediterranean and Butterfish.

What he said: Addison said in his review that he tried the Dungeness crab legs with Dijonnaise and tomatillo vinaigrette, as well as a flat-iron steak with guajillo-coriander rub and chipotle butter.

  • “Impressive cooking in such a massive restaurant isn’t easy, and neither is personable service, but Saizon pulled off both,” Addison wrote.

Zoom out: Along with Saizon, two other restaurants in the Central Valley made the list: Mi Ranchito Cafe in Stockton and the Wool Growers Restaurant in Bakersfield.
