The Museum of the Sierra at Shaver Lake is hosting a fundraiser with the Fresno Philharmonic to expand its educational programs.
Symphony in the Sierra will be held on June 28 at 7 p.m. in the Boogaert Amphitheater and will be followed by a champagne reception.
The big picture: Thirty-six musicians with the philharmonic will perform an hour-long set of light, classical arrangements at the outdoor theater.
- All money raised will go directly toward the museum and its endowment to benefit its educational programs.
- A benefactor has pledged to match every dollar raised, and all costs to put on the fundraiser have already been covered.
- Educational programs include field trips to teach children about what has happened in the past in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The museum is also working on a display focused on the Creek Fire, which devastated the region in 2020.
- The museum is hoping to have over 175 attend the concert.
What they’re saying: Debbie Jacobsen, the treasurer of the Central Sierra Historical Society, said the goal is to expand the reach of the museum to include more students from throughout Fresno County.
- “It’s beautiful at night,” Jacobsen said. “It’s amongst the trees up against a big rock, and I just think it’s going to be a magnificent sound and opportunity to have them up there visiting Shaver Lake.”
- She continued, “I just think that Shaver Lake is a beautiful community that’s a part of Fresno County. And a lot of people come up there to play and they have a great time. And we’d like them now to come up and do something different than they’ve done before and enjoy the philharmonic at Shaver Lake.”
Tickets: People can get tickets with a $250 donation to the museum, which will provide an unreserved seat.
- A $1,500 donation will result in one ticket with preferred seating, and the society is also accepting a $10,000 donation for two tickets with reserved premier seating.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting the society at cshs@sierrahistorical.org or by calling 559-841-4478.
