Longtime KMJ Radio host Ray Appleton will miss the next several weeks due to a health issue.
Appleton has already been off the air since the end of last month.
The big picture: KMJ Program Director Blake Taylor said on the air Monday that Appleton will return to work in several weeks.
- In the meantime, his 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. timeslot will be filled by Taylor for the first hour and the Guy Benson Show for the remaining two.
- Taylor said that Appleton is on the mend and is getting better every day.
Driving the news: Appleton posted on Facebook at the beginning of May that he has Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), saying he does not have an immune system.
- “I have no protections from disease and sickness and this is why I’m always in the hospital,” Appleton wrote. “It’s just gotten worse, the older I get.”
- His son Rory Appleton wrote on Facebook last week that Appleton had pneumonia and a minor heart issue but is getting better.
- “He needs a little bit of physical therapy, so just bear with us,” Rory Appleton wrote. “On that note: If anyone knows of a good, local rehab facility that can help him regain some mobility, we are all ears.”
