Fresno police officer arrested for sexual battery

The officer has been placed on administrative leave.

A Fresno police officer was arrested for allegedly committing sexual battery.

Driving the news: The Fresno Police Department announced on Friday that Obioma Agbowo, who has been an officer with the department for seven years, was arrested on Wednesday on two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.

  • The arrest came after an investigation into an off-duty incident that occurred earlier this year that involved two adult victims.
  • The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office issued a misdemeanor warrant for Agbowo’s arrest following an investigation by the Fresno Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit.
  • Agbowo was placed on administrative leave while the department conducts an internal affairs investigation.

What they’re saying: “Immediately upon being advised of this complaint, the Fresno Police Department launched both a criminal and administrative investigation to address the allegations,” said Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto in a statement. “We hold our personnel to the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty. When misconduct is alleged, we take action to thoroughly investigate and identify any violations of policy and law.”
