Fresno Housing Council to host disaster preparedness workshop

The Community Housing Council has room for around 100 people for the workshop, which will help people be prepared in case disaster strikes.

Fresno’s Community Housing Council will be holding a disaster preparedness workshop on Saturday to help people plan for the unexpected.

The workshop will be held at the Tower Conference Center from 11 a.m. To 1 p.m.

The big picture: The Tower Conference Center is located at 205 E. Riverpark Circle in north Fresno.

  • Anyone interested in attending must register online
  • Attendees will receive a go-bag to take home, which will have emergency items for when people need to leave their homes in a hurry.

Go deeper: The council was motivated to hold this workshop after the devastating disasters that have struck the nation over the last several months, including the destructive wildfires in Southern California and the hurricane damage on the east coast.

  • Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig will kick off the workshop before sending people off to meet with several groups, including the Fresno Fire Department, Animal Rescue, First American Natural Hazard Disclosures and the Fresno Community Emergency Response Team, which will provide hands-on training for local preparedness efforts.
  • Lunch will be provided for free for all attendees.

What he’s saying: Community Housing Council board member Don Scordino said the council is a resource to the community to help protect people’s homes in a number of different ways, with the focus this weekend centering on disaster preparedness.

  • “The Community Housing Council has put together this interactive workshop that will get people ready for the unexpected, whether it be natural or unnatural disasters,” Scordino said.
