Chukchansi tribe donates thousands to Fresno boxing club

The Southeast Boxing Club Fresno has a major amateur event coming up.

Fresno’s Southeast Boxing Club has received a major donation from the Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians. 

The Chukchansi tribe announced Tuesday that it is donating $8,000 to the Southeast Boxing Club Fresno. 

The big picture: The donation will help fund a new boxing ring and help cover costs for the upcoming Battle of the Beasts: Boxing in the Park event scheduled for May 18. 

  • Battle of the Beasts, which is hosted by Southeast Boxing Club is an amateur boxing event that is free for the public. 

What they’re saying: “The Tribal Council/CEDA Board reaffirms its commitment to supporting local organizations that make a meaningful impact in strengthening the community,” said tribe Chairwoman Tracey Hopkins. “It also teaches our young adults and our youth discipline and sportsmanship, which is so important in nurturing a good mind and spirit.”
