Interim no more: Jiménez-Sandoval to stay on as Fresno State’s ninth president

Jiménez-Sandoval succeeds Dr. Joseph I. Castro – who departed to become CSU Chancellor – continuing his 21-year career at Fresno State.

Dr. Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval will be sticking around, the California State University system announced on Wednesday.

Jiménez-Sandoval, who was tapped to serve as Fresno State’s interim president upon the promotion of Dr. Joseph I. Castro to serve as CSU Chancellor, was confirmed by the California State University Board of Trustees as the university’s full-time, permanent head.

“Dr. Jiménez-Sandoval has an exciting vision for the future of the university while having gained immeasurable institutional knowledge and developed outstanding relationships throughout the campus and community over his many years of service to Fresno State,” said the chair of the search committee for Fresno State, CSU Trustee Jane Carney.

Jiménez-Sandoval first joined Fresno State in 2000 as a faculty member, teaching Spanish and Portuguese. His 21-year career led him to ultimately serve as Dean of the school’s College of Arts and Humanities and then Provost before Castro’s departure.

“It is an honor to be chosen to lead this premier university, which opens doors of opportunities for our talented students and improves the quality of life for everyone in the Valley,” said Jiménez-Sandoval. “I look forward to working together with our dynamic faculty, committed staff, talented students and innovative community partners to increase the life-changing opportunities that a Fresno State education provides.”
