Clovis has decided to promote from within to find its next City Manager after conducting a national search.
The city announced Thursday that Andrew Haussler will succeed John Holt as City Manager.
The big picture: Haussler is currently the Assistant City Manager and has been with the city for over 18 years.
- Along with being the Assistant City Manager, he has been the Community and Economic Development Director, Deputy City Manager, Community Development Grants Coordinator and Housing Program Manager.
- Before joining the city, Haussler worked for energy company AES and Fresno County.
- Halt is retiring at the end of the year. He has served as the city manager since 2021 and has been with the city for 25 years.
Zoom in: Clovis operates as a council-manager form of government, with the city council hiring the city manager, who is responsible for implementing all policy decisions voted on by the council.
- The city manager is also responsible for all day-to-day operations at the city.
What we’re watching: The Clovis City Council is scheduled to officially appoint Haussler as City Manager on Dec. 16.
- Haussler’s first day in the job will be Jan. 1, 2025.
What they’re saying: “Being asked to lead Clovis as City Manager is the highest honor of my career,” Haussler said. “Clovis is an exceptional city with even better residents and staff. I want to thank John Holt for his 25 years of dedicated service to the city; he has made a deep impact on me and our community as a whole.”
- Mayor Vong Mouanoutoua added, “It speaks volumes that our city has within its current ranks an individual who is not only incredibly qualified, but also extremely passionate about Clovis, to fill the City Manager’s position. Andy is no stranger to the complicated issues facing Clovis and is the right person, at the right time, for this important role.”
