Bryson DeChambeau is looking to launch a real estate development near Clovis with an adjoining golf academy.
The Business Journal reported on Thursday that DeChambeau has partnered with Cook Land Company for the land northeast of Clovis.
Driving the news: Cook says on its website that it has over 1.1 million square feet of land in its portfolio spanning over 50 properties, adding 200,000 square feet annually.
- DeChambeau appeared on a sports business podcast in January, where he first detailed his plans for the development.
- DeChambeau said at the time that he envisioned a multi-sport complex with a driving range, golf course and residential community center. He also said he plans to tie the project in with students at Clovis Unified School District to give them more opportunities.
- The total project would span over 200 acres that DeChambeau said would be around 30% of the size of Clovis.
- KMPH reported at the time that Cook was working with DeChambeau on the project, but Cook could not confirm the partnership at the time, and Fresno County had not received any permit applications.
The big picture: Cook confirmed to The Business Journal on Thursday that it has partnered with DeChambeau.
- Further, Fresno County confirmed that it is currently working on the golf academy portion of the project, per the report.
What they’re saying: “I can confirm that Cook Land Company formed a business partnership centered around real estate assets with Bryson DeChambeau several years ago, and we are proud to consider him a dear friend,” Cook Land Company CEO Todd Cook told The Business Journal.
- Back in January, DeChambeau told podcast host Joe Pompliano that his goal is to make the development economically viable and more accessible to the community.
- “I’ve got a strategy right now that I’m implementing that people have heard,” DeChambeau said. “It’s a strategy that essentially brings people from off the street, to the driving range, to lessons and then to the golf course. It’s a full three-step process, essentially. Getting them to the driving range, getting them lessons and then getting them on the golf course.”
