Over 2.6 million people traveled through Fresno Yosemite International Airport last year, an all-time record.
The record number of passengers was an increase of over 9% compared to 2023, when the airport served 2.4 million passengers.
Zoom in: A large part of the 2024 growth centered on international passengers.
- Over 411,000 people traveled between Fresno and Mexico last year, 27.5% more than in 2023 when there were nearly 323,000 people who made the trip.
- The airport also saw the return of daily seasonal nonstop service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, as well as new daily nonstop flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and a new Saturday nonstop service to Dallas Love Field.
- Southwest Airlines also increased its frequency of flights to Las Vegas from three every day to four.
What we’re watching: Nonstop seasonal service to Portland International Airport is launching on May 22 and will run through mid-August on Sundays and Thursdays with Allegiant.
- United Airlines will return its seasonal nonstop service to Chicago in May, and Southwest will return its nonstop service to Dallas Love Field in June.
What they’re saying: “I couldn’t be more proud of Fresno Yosemite International Airport for reaching this incredible milestone of serving over 2.6 million passengers in 2024,” said Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer. “It’s an exciting time for Fresno as our airport continues to grow and establish itself as an up-and-coming travel hub, connecting our city to more destinations than ever before.”
- Dyer added, “FAT is more than just a place to catch a flight – it’s a key driver of jobs and economic growth for our region. With the opening of the newly expanded terminal on the horizon, I’m thrilled for what’s ahead as we continue to welcome travelers and show the world what Fresno has to offer.”
- Director of Aviation Henry Thompson said the growth is because of airlines realizing the local demand for travel.
- “This major passenger growth trend at Fresno Yosemite International Airport is triggered by our airline partners recognizing and responding to the region’s demand for air service options from Fresno,” Thompson said. “Growing air service with more passengers choosing to fly Fresno and filling seats demonstrates to the airlines that more service is needed to meet demand.”
