Visalia Unified reaches one-year deal with teachers

Teachers will receive a modest raise under the new agreement.

Visalia Unified School District has reached a tentative agreement with the Visalia Unified Teachers Association on a new collective bargaining agreement.

The new agreement will run from July of this year through June 2026.

The big picture: Visalia Unified is giving teachers a 1.25% raise and is increasing health benefit costs by 9%.

  • Teachers will stay on the 184-day work year schedule under the new deal.
  • VUTA members voted to accept the agreement on May 21.

What they’re saying: “I am proud of the relationship we have with our VUTA partners in VUSD,” said Superintendent Kirk Shrum. “That collaborative spirit allows decisions to be made in a timely manner that reflect our vision and mission.”

  • VUTA Bargaining Chair Elizabeth Fosythe said the union is proud of the work its team did to strike the deal.
  • “Throughout this year we have discussed a variety of issues that will better our district,” Fosythe said. “We are excited to continue this work together in the future to ensure VUSD is a district teachers want to work for, and students thrive in.”
  • VUSD Board President Joy Naylor added, “On behalf of the Board, I want to thank both bargaining teams for their thoughtful, dedicated work throughout this process. This agreement provides stability for the year ahead and reflects our continued investment in the people who ensure that every student is learning everyday.”
