Parents and community members at Mariposa County High School are demanding the removal of a teacher who reportedly made highly controversial and inflammatory remarks after the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
The teacher allegedly said he was glad about Charlie Kirk’s death and told MAGA-supporting students to “go home and cry,” igniting outrage among parents and community leaders.
The big picture: Brittany Arrington, a parent speaker at the school board meeting, called the teacher’s behavior “utterly unacceptable” and “morally reprehensible,” during the district’s board meeting on Thursday, according to Nexstar.
- She emphasized the danger posed by promoting the idea that those who share Kirk’s views “are somehow deserving of violence or death.”
- Arrington stated, “Celebrating or making light of any individual’s death, regardless of their beliefs, is disgraceful and undermines the principles of civility and humanity that we strive to instill in our students.”
- Jenni Kiser, a mother and District 4 Supervisor, said the teacher’s comments were directed at MAGA students and labeled the remarks “not only inappropriate,” but “unsafe.” She stressed that parents should trust that schools do not promote violence as a response to disagreement.
The district’s response: The school board has responded by announcing an investigation into the reported comments, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation.
