A Fresno Armenian school is receiving a major donation from the Leon S. Peters Foundation.
The Charlie Keyan Armenian Community School announced that it has received a five-year pledge for a $100,000 donation to support the school’s Legacy Campus project.
The big picture: The Charlie Keyan Armenian Community School is an accredited pre-kindergarten and elementary school that is dedicated to enriching the lives of Armenian children.
- The school is currently working to build a new state-of-the-art facility and is seeking $20,000 annually for five years from donors to be Founding Members.
- Leon Peters, the son of Armenian immigrants, was a local businessman and civil leader who started his foundation to support education and human services.
Zoom in: All Founding Members will have their names permanently displayed on a pavilion at the center of the new campus.
- The pavilion will feature a large-scale sculpture of the letter AYP, which is the first letter of the Armenian alphabet.
What they’re saying: “This is a pivotal moment for our school and the Legacy Campus Project,” said school Board of Education Chairman Hoori Kalamkarian. “We are deeply grateful to the Leon S. Peters Foundation for their generous investment and for believing in our vision for the future of CKACS. Their support energizes us as we continue to build momentum and move forward with phase one of our fundraising efforts.”
