Former CUSD Superintendent Terry Bradley passes away

Bradley led Clovis Unified for seven years, overseeing the district’s rise to achieving the top academic scores in the state.

Former Clovis Unified School District Superintendent Terry Bradley has passed away, the district announced on Thursday.

Bradley first joined Clovis Unified in 1976 as the district’s business administrator, working his way up to superintendent in 2002.

He retired in 2009 after leading CUSD for seven years.

Along with his work at CUSD, Bradley held leadership positions in the Association of School Business Officials, the California Association of School Business Officials, Californians for Schools, Association of California School Administrators and the Coalition of Adequate School Housing.

Bradley was also an active member of the California Association of School Business Officials’ mentoring program.

Throughout his tenure as superintendent, Bradley led CUSD to have the highest API score of any California school district testing more than 25,000 students.

Current Superintendent Corrine Folmer said Bradley’s expertise in navigating California’s school funding model and his brilliant strategies to achieve the district’s facilities goal led to CUSD achieving much of Doc Buchanan’s vision.

“Over the past year, we have spoken often of legacy and the impact we leave on the world around us,” Folmer said. “Terry was the kind of person whose wisdom, character and kindness left a lasting legacy not only here in Clovis Unified but across the state and our nation.”

Folmer said Bradley spent the last 16 years mentoring leaders in CUSD and across the state.

“Next month, we’ll open an educational center with Dr. Bradley’s name on it, and I know that the hundreds of people on our team who are working on that campus had high hopes that they would celebrate its opening with Terry present,” Folmer said. “He leaves an incredible legacy that our Clovis Unified team will carry forward, and that the future students of the Terry P. Bradley Educational Center will be well-versed in.”
