Fertility clinic bombing suspect dies in custody

The suspect died in federal custody after he was found unresponsive.

Daniel Park, a suspect in the May bombing of a California fertility clinic, died in federal custody at Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles.

Park, 32, was found unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead despite life-saving measures being initiated.

The big picture: The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service were notified of Park’s death; however, the cause and manner of death were not specified by the Bureau of Prisons.

Driving the news: Park was arrested in June for his link to the bombing, which killed one person – Guy Bartkus – and injured several others in Palm Springs.

  • Park had allegedly secured 270 pounds of ammonium nitrate for Bartkus and shared Bartkus’ views, although he was not present in California during the bombing.
  • Park was detained in Poland by Polish authorities after the incident and later taken into custody by U.S. authorities in New York.
  • He arrived at the Los Angeles facility on June 13 and was awaiting trial for indictment on charges of malicious destruction of property.
