Fresno Brown Berets desecrate U.S., Israeli flags during city council meeting

Activists tore up U.S. and Israeli flags while calling on the council to pass a resolution supporting a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

Thursday’s Fresno City Council meeting featured masked members of the Brown Berets tearing up an American flag.

Jose Solorio, a member of the Fresno Brown Berets, spoke during the public comment section during the end of Thursday’s meeting to call on the council to pass a resolution calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

What they’re saying: Solorio said he and his associates came to the meeting to speak out in support of the Palestinian people, Sudan, Haiti, the Congo and other so-called “occupied” lands.

  • “We reject the complicity of this council, the city, the state and this country and these atrocities,” Solorio said. “We condemn the city council’s refusal to call for a cease-fire in Palestine.”
  • Solorio said his group condemns all councilmembers who refused to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians during their flag raising in downtown Fresno.
  • He also condemned Councilman Garry Bredefeld, accusing him of making Islamophobic and Zionist remarks, as well as Council President Annalisa Perea for not condemning Bredefeld.

Watch: While Solorio spoke – demanding that the city divest from all ties to Israel and call for a cease-fire, among other demands – others held up an American Israeli flags, tore them up and stepped on them.

  • Solorio finished his remarks by saying “F___ you Garry Bredefeld.”
