Tulare Co. confirms third coronavirus case, patient in ‘critical condition’

A third Tulare County resident has tested positive for coronavirus and is in critical condition, county public health and Kaweah Delta officials announced Monday night.

Tulare County Public Health notified staff at Kaweah Delta Hospital of the positive test result.

The county currently has 73 individuals under self-quarantine for potential exposure.

No information was immediately available as to whether this case was community spread or travel-related.

Kaweah Delta officials also flagged the county’s second coronavirus patient on Friday. Tulare County’s first coronavirus case was discovered at Porterville’s Sierra View District Hospital.

Kaweah Delta announced Monday it is working to identify all employees who came in contact with the patient, and will test and treat anyone who displays symptoms.

“As the rest of the country implements increasingly-restrictive measures to protect us from the coronavirus, Kaweah Delta will move forward with similar protections for our patients, their families, our staff, our physicians and our community,” said hospital CEO Gary Herbst said in a statement.
