A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains on Wednesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The origin of the quake – which registered at 10:40 a.m. – was attributed to the Inyo County town of Lone Pine. Located between Sequoia National Park and Death Valley, the total depth of the major tremor was 2.9 kilometers, or approximately 1.8 miles.

Two aftershocks struck in roughly the same areas, according to USGS data, registering 3.6 magnitude and 3.1 magnitude with depths of 9.4 kilometers (or 5.8 miles) and 4.8 kilometers (or 2.7 miles).

There have been no reports of damage from the earthquake.
